SUPER 30

Few days back I was reading an article about SUPER 30. I am sure many people are aware of it by now, for those who aren’t, it is a highly ambitious educational program running under the banner of "Ramanujan Society of Mathematics". It hunts for 30 meritorious talents from among the economically backward sections of the society and shapes them for India's most prestigious institution – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The good thing about this program is that it targets students from extremely poor families. I think UPA government in India should consider this as a good example in setting up educational needs for poor students rather than increasing the quota.
I seriously don’t understand the logistics of the quota system in India. At least in my opinion, the quota system should be based more on economic class rather than caste system.

The quota system is completely political... Did you know that Babasaheb Ambedkar signed a pact with Gandhi and Congress to get reservations/quota for Dalits? That pact was supposed to end after a specific period, but it ended up becoming a vote bank for Congress and many other political parties, which is why it never ended like it was supposed to......
